Multiphonics CV-3 Manual

Version 3.0.0

What's New in Multiphonics CV‑3

This section is for users who are already familiar with Multiphonics CV‑3 and who want to quickly get up to speed with this new version.

If you have never used Multiphonics CV‑3 before, skip to the next section.

Polyphony

Instrument patches can automatically gain 8 voices of polyphony simply by switching to Poly mode.

MPE Support

Users with MPE controllers can take advantage of polyphonic glides and polyphonic expression on the Keyboard Mod outputs. By default, Mod 1 will be assigned to the modulation wheel, which always affects all notes, but Mod 2 and Mod 3 support per-note expression with channel pressure and control change #74 as long as you are using an MPE keyboard.

Updated Modules

  • The Keyboard module has a new Mod 3 output (assigned to CC#74 by default).
  • The VCA has a new Exp input for exponential modulation. In CV-2, this was handled by the Vel input, which was modified in CV‑3 to match the industry-standard MIDI velocity curve.
  • The Delay has a new Mix knob to allow blending dry signal into the output, simplifying its use as an echo effect.

New Modules

The following new modules have been added:

  • 3-operator Digital FM 1980’s-inspired FM module that can either be used by itself or integrated into a larger synth patch.
  • Objeq Oscillator Physical modeling module reproducing the sound of various acoustic objects.
  • Stack VCO Rich multi-oscillator module combining up to 7 slightly detuned sawtooths, square waves or triangle waves.
  • Tube Oscillator Physical model of a cylindrical tube with a versatile exciter.
  • µADSR Compact CV envelope generator when the full ADSR is overkill.
  • Pluck Envelope CV generator for plucked envelopes.
  • Comb Filter Comb filter with feedforward and feedback topologies.
  • Tube Filter Filter reproducing the effect of an open or closed cylindrical tube.
  • Reverberator Recreates the effect of sound reflections on the walls of a room or hall, with most settings supporting real-time modulation.
  • Oscilloscope Full-featured two-channel oscilloscope, with support for XY mode.
  • Effects Provides bypass and mix controls for each effect. Available only in the standalone application and instrument plug-in. The gear button opens the Effect Rack.
  • Chorus (Output Effect) Smooth and rich chorus effect available in the Effect Rack of the standalone application and instrument plug-in.
  • Distortion (Output Effect) New distortion effect available in the Effect Rack of the standalone application and instrument plug-in.

Workflow Improvements

  • Macro knobs can be renamed.

  • The new CV Quick-connect feature allows you to connect many common CV inputs to their most likely sources with a simple double-click.

  • The Command Tray provides quick access to all module commands.

  • Time-based modules—such as the LFO, Delay, or Pulse—can be easily synchronized to tempo from the Command Tray.

  • The library, keyboard, and settings buttons in the toolbar have new, clearer icons.

  • You can now save presets of MIDI settings, which is convenient if you use Multiphonics with various MIDI or MPE controllers.

  • Keyboard Mod sources can now be changed directly from the Keyboard module without using the Settings panel.

  • A new MIDI Learn function has been added to the Keyboard Mod menu.
